Web Apps
Web apps is short for web based applications.  They can be standalone or a web interface to an existing application.   Since I have a formal education in software development (B.S. Computer Science at UCI), and over 5 years of work experience with web site development, web application development is my specialty.

Below I have listed some of the languages and technologies I have worked along with my estimated skill level.

Client Side Languages & Usage
Java applets are little applications that can run in a web browser. Although you might see them used for special effects, they can also be used to implement shopping carts and other complex systems.

Experience: 7/10
JavaScript is also used for special effects, client side form validation, and more.

Experience: 9/10
VBScript
Much like Javascript except that support is limited mostly to the MSIE webbrowser.

Experience: 5/10
Server Side Languages & Usage
Java is also be ran on the server in the form of servlets. Servlets run in the same process as the web server, so the response is much faster than traditionl CGI. Java Server Pages (JSP) are also available which are similar to ASP pages, but since JSP get compiled dynamically they are much faster than classic ASP.

Java servlets and JSP pages can also take advantage of the entire J2EE platform.

Experience: 9/10
Perl can be used to accept and process form data, connect to databases, file I/O, and many other tasks. It is one of the most widely used standards in the industry. Besides CGI, Perl can also be used for UNIX shell scripts which makes it ideal for managing websites.

Experience: 9/10
ASP (Active Server Pages) are web pages that have script embedded in them that gets executed on the server before getting sent to the web browser.  They can be written in VBScript, Jscript, or PerlScript. ASP are primarily used on the Microsoft IIS web server.

Experience: 9/10
ASP.NET (Active Server Pages Dot Net) are the next generation of ASP and get compiled on demand like JSP pages resulting in better performance than classic ASP.

Experience: 5/10
PHP is a HTML embedded scripting language that is good for accessing mySQL and ODBC databases, but also has many of the features of Perl.

Experience: 6/10
Cold Fusion
Much like PHP.

Experience: 1/10
Data
DATABASES
I have database design and implementation experience using MySQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle, Informix, Sybase, DB2 and MS Access. I have experience connecting databases to the web using Perl, ASP, and Java.

Experience: 9/10
XML is a way of storing and and exchanging data in a format that can be easily parsed and translated. I am familiar with defining DTD and Schema for XML files as well as creating XSL and CSS for translating XML into HTML and PDF. I am also experienced with DOM manipulation and creation of XML using Java and .NET on the server side and Javascript on the client side. I have also had formal training in developing Web Services.

Experience: 9/10
