Website Hosting
Depending on the purpose of your site, you will have different needs in a host. If you have your own domain name, here is a list of basic features that your web host should be providing you:

1. Logs and stats for tracking site visitors. E.g. where they are coming from, what days/times, what files are most popular, etc.

2. A gateway for browser/server interaction. CGI is the most common, but other technologies are also popular such as ASP, Cold Fusion, PHP, Java Servlets, etc.

3. Ample disk space, transfer limits, e-mail accounts, quick support, fast connectivity and minimal downtime.

UNIX Hosting Solution
UNIX servers offer a lot more user configurability and control than NT servers currently can. For instance, UNIX users can make password protected directories and set their own file permissions, while NT users have to ask their admin to do these tasks. Unix servers can also offer database hosting at lower prices than NT server due to licensing cost differences.

For hosting, I suggest pair Networks.  I have been hosting sites on them for years and have never been dissapointed.
